Have you ever wondered about how things were created? How it all began… Evolution, flight, post its and liquid paper? Some times things are made somewhere in between an accident and a design. In many of these cases it is never clear as the lined is blurred in the messy process of creation. Take this short article about IBM and the beginning of the open-source movement. Then please go to my newly created blog, called, By Accident or Design. It is a concept site, where you are welcome to make comments and bring up unexpected examples for others to enjoy.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Back in the early 1970s, the hardware engineers at Digital Equipment Corporation made a decision about how their new computer, the PDP-11, would address memory. I believe their decision had the unintended, butterfly-effect consequence of helping to bring the open source software movement into existence. (Source: onlamp.com)
